Wallkill East Rotary is once again planning its 5K Turkey Trot on Thursday, November 26, 2015.  Despite the winter storm the night before last year's event, the 5K event was a great success.  "You cannot control Mother Nature, but we still had a great event despite the winter weather.  Our Rotary members enjoy seeing people and their families show up to participate in the event together and we appreciate their support," said race organizer Lauren Rowley.  The Town of Wallkill based Rotary club raised approximately $8,000 last year that went to support the club's scholarship fund as well as other local organizations including the YMCA of Middletown's Save the Last Lap pool campaign, HONOR Flight, and the Boys & Girls Club.  This year's race will start at 8am with registration opening at 6:45am.  The course will start and finish near the movie theater entrance to The Galleria at Crystal Run.

Turkey Trots are traditionally held on the morning of Thanksgiving and were started as a way to burn off calories before overindulging in a Thanksgiving feast.  Race participants have been known to dress in turkey costumes and this race is no different- costumes are encouraged!
