11: Rotary Foundation Brunch. We are being honored for our contributions to the Foundation last Rotary year.
17: Rotary Leadership Institute @ Mount Saint Mary College, 7:30-3:30. Please let Harold know if you would like to attend. The club will pick-up the cost.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Carl and the Club Service committee are working on a fellowship event for November. Carl and Lauren have also offered to host our holiday party at their home in Montgomery. An exact date is TBD, but it will be in January after the holiday rush.
40 of our flamingos disappeared with our sign. A new flock is on order and should arrive soon from down south. Stay tuned for flocking details and assignments. We hope to continue flocking for another couple weeks.
SPEAKER(S):
John Anthony Bruno shared with the group that he was a Rotarian back in Maryland when he lived there. He has worked for the American Cancer Society for 2 months now. The ACS was founded 100 years ago. It has 3 million volunteers and 20 million supporters. The society works to save lives by researching treatments and ways to detect cancer. 46 Nobel Prize winners have won for their cancer research. The cancer society also educations communities on how to prevent and detect cancer. The AMS also provides services for survivors and care givers plus provides answers and support through their 800 number and website. ACS also improves the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors. Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer are the cancer society's biggest events. These events have raised $4 billion since 1985. Cancer is the leading cause of death globally. John also spoke about the Cancer Prevention Study-3 that will be going on in November. The attached sheet has more details.
